Who we are
The work on this website was created by students and collaborators directed by Kelle Brooks. Kelle is an architect and educator practicing in San Luis Obispo, CA, teaching in the Architecture Department Cal Poly. We are currently working with local elementary schools to design outdoor learning spaces and are developing design prototypes for a variety of types of outdoor learning activities.

what we do
We investigate ways to design learning environments that connect students and nature. We design prototypes and work with local schools on site specific projects. We run workshops with regional elementary schools. Cal Poly architecture students bring their knowledge and enthusiasm about designing outdoor learning spaces to elementary students. The elementary students are asked to be “critics” offering their insight interpretation. The two-way interaction is extremely beneficial for each group. The Cal Poly students enjoy teaching the younger students and realize how meaningful their design work is to this very enthusiastic user group. The elementary students are excited to be working with the college students and the topic of architecture. The models and drawings we bring to show the elementary students are very tangible and provide examples of how to apply concepts in math, science and art. At the end of these collaborations the number one question is “When will these get built at our school?”
